My good friend Lynn finds herself in the same boat as I do right now. Out of work (albeit from a different company), but still on payroll and enjoying it terribly. She rents a house down on LBI for a week in the summer and invited me to join her for a few days this week since - hell - I'm not doing anything else. So I went down Tuesday and returned yesterday. A good time was had.
Tuesday afternoon, we were sitting in our beach chairs watching the waves and the people and the gulls. Lynn was recalling an earier time on the beach, when the circumstances were different. At that time, she said to her companion, "You know, I wish there was a way I could get paid for doing this." And then a few seconds later, she turned to me and remarked, "And I guess we are!" We got a good chuckle out of the fact that, yes indeed, we are being paid for doing nothing more than getting a tan right now.
A while later, back at the house, we were lounging on the deck. Both of us had finished our first beer of the afternoon and decided to stop sunning for a minute to go inside and retrieve two more cold ones from the fridge. As we returned to the deck and were settling in our chairs, I raised the beer in my right hand in a toast, smiled, and happily said: "Back to work!" And took a swig.
It's a tough job, but we're just the girls for it.
OMG, if I didn't love you so much, I think I could hate you right now.
Back to work! The NERVE! ha!
Enjoy, lady. You know I'm happy for you!
