I picked up the new car Saturday, late afternoon. It was kind of cool to see it out in front of the showroom with the big banner spanning the windshield telling everyone that "This Prius was specially prepared for [insert my full name]." It wasn't so cool driving the thing home in the dark and pouring rain. And it wasn't so cool that it snowed later that night and my first day of driving it was filled with extreme amounts of caution and resulted in an icky salt coating on the very-recently-washed and waxed black exterior. It was fun, though, sitting in the driveway and trying to figure out what all that stuff on the display screen does and means. I'm really, really, really getting a kick out of the backup camera and the push-button, keyless door opening and starting the engine. Really, really, really. And since I bought the car based 100% on friends' experiences and internet research, I'm really pleased that I like the way it feels and drives. I'd never even sat in a Prius before I received the keys to mine.
I had to get to know the car a little before settling on a name. Driving back and forth 120 miles to work today kind of settled it for me, and I'm proud to announce that she will henceforth be known as . . .
. . . Mahalia.
And with that, I'm off to read more of the voluminous Owner's Manual.
Good luck with the new wheels. And, yowza! Another Mahalia Jackson fan. I don't think there are many of us.

Congratulations. I'm so glad you love it and that you finally got it!!! Are you going to post a picture of her soon? With you behind the wheel? Smiling like a crazy lady? I mean, smiling?

I would never have thought of Mahalia, but it sure has a nice ring to it. That was an inspired choice. Plus it has the bonus of sounding Hawaiian, so you can dream of a tropical paradise while you're driving through the snow.
